Divided History World Class Museums Capital City 700 year old Gothic Church
Divided cities ... there are not that many of them. Berlin ... Budapest ... Jerusalem (all capitals). My first thought was Berlin but I am now leaning toward Budapest (which is actually two cities, Buda and Pest (Pescht?)) on separate sides of the the Danube river. 223 museums. I haven't figured the 700 year old Gothic church yet ... but I'm still looking.
/edit ... ok ... it's got to be Budapest ... The 700-year old Mathias church with Gothic spire ...

Passport destination 07/30/03: Budapest
I'm thinking more that it's somewhere in Germany, perhaps the Rhineland. Cologne has a 700 year-old gothic cathedral.

Guess I never shared my location with anyone. My group plays at Buffalow Wild Wings in Bellevue, NE. We've only made the national scores twice - once back last year with Bombay and the recent topic on Rural England. We're just a bunch of military nugs! Our individual player names are Soccer, T-Bone (me), Weener and Tribe I'll look out for you all in the future. Janet, I've noticed Jumpin Joe's up there a couple of times.
I didn't play last night - mandatory attendance at an Army function. Better get hot on the clues for next week. I'll share my findings.
Cheers Brit

I'd say Berlin. It meets all the criteria. 700 year old Gothic church (The Marienkirche), it's a capital, it has famous museums, and definately a divided history.

The Marienkirche, or Church of Mary, in Berlin is over 700 years old, in the Gothic style. I think I'd go along with Berlin.

How about Tallin, capital of Estonia? City with a divided history, once a part of the Soviet Union, now independent. Also, famous landmark is the Dome Cathedral, a 13th century gothic cathedral. Lots of museums also.
Could also be Brussels. Divided in history with Belgium constantly being split. Now part of Flanders but is the official Belgian capital since WWII. Both Flemmish and French speaking quarters in the city. Famous 13th century gothic church - Sablon Church. Very famous museums.

From the NTNMidweek (at yahoogroups.com) board, the prevailing guess will be Berlin. It is a capital city, it certainly was divided during the Cold War era, has a church at least 700 years old, and I would not doubt there is a world-class museum there. It seems to fit all the clues.
Some people might think it's going to be Budapest, but I believe NTN already covered that area last summer. So, I doubt they're going back there again that quickly.
On another note, has any part of Greece been a destination yet? Considering the Summer Olympics will take place in Athens this year, I would expect NTN will make that a Passport game destination in the near future.

Janet, Is there a website you went to find that or do you have personal notes? I think it would be good to look at some past destinations. Thanks.

It's right here on Nick's site. Check the home page. There's a Passport link.

Greece was the destination on Apr 12 2000, and Athens proper was the destination on Jul 25 2001.
You might be onto something, though. Feb 20 2002's destination was "Winter Olympics Sites". There very well could be an analogous "Summer Olympics Sites", maybe on Aug 11 (opening ceremonies are on the 13th).

Clues:
Divided History World Class Museums Capital City 700 year old Gothic Church
- Berlin was definitely divided after WWII by the Allied Powers, thus it has a "divided history". - World Class Museums: Deutsches Historisches Museum Berlin, Museumsinsel (Museum Island), Ägyptisches Museum (Egyptian), Pergamon Museum (Gates of Ishtar, Pergamon Altar) - Berlin is a capital city, obviously. - It holds the 700 year old "Die Marienkirche" church.
Gotta be Berlin, Baby!

Given how recently Budapest was done, I have to agree it must be elsewhere ... and I am going to kick myself if they double up and repeat it tomorrow. I am and have been studying Berlin ... but still think the clues more accurately reflect Budapest (don't ask me why, it's just a gut feel ... and of course NTN's clues have never been vague, misleading or outright senseless before, have they??? )
Best of luck to everyone tonite ... ss
